The Big Picture Band suffered an unfortunate setback recently. March 3, 2008, guitarist Phil Stinnett was diagnosed with cancer. Resident of Knoxville, Tennessee, Stinnett was admitted to East Tennessee Baptist Hospital. As radiation treatment began, Stinnett's spine collapsed, requiring a laminectomy, which involved four 9-inch titanium pins in the 360° around the spinal column in a 6-hour surgery. Then, they found blood clots in his legs and had filters installed. After nearly a month of recovery and therapy at Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center, Stinnett finally went home to recuperate. Only home for 10 days and Stinnett fractured his hip while moving on the transfer board from his car to the wheelchair. Another major surgery and a week and a half of therapy at Pat Neal and Stinnett is finally home and starting chemotherapy.
Stinnett
regrets the setback and would like nothing better than to get back on his
guitar and play some more of that old rock 'n roll music.
